Lowrance Announces New Elite
DownScan Imaging© Sonar Series

New High-Resolution Color Fishfinder and Fishfinder/Chartplotter Options Provide Crystal-Clear, Photo-Like Underwater Detail—All For An Unprecedented Value

Tulsa, Okla. – Lowrance, a world-leading brand in marine electronics since 1957 and GPS navigational systems since 1992, announced today its new Elite series of color fishfinder and fishfinder/GPS-chartplotter combination units featuring exclusive DownScan ImagingÔ (DSI) sonar technology. The Elite DSI line includes the Elite-5x DSI fishfinder, Elite-5 DSI fishfinder/chartplotter and Elite-5 DSI Gold fishfinder/chartplotter bundled with a Lowrance-exclusive special-issue Navionics Gold micro SD chartcard. On display for the first time at the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST) 2010 show in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Elite DSI models combine Lowrance’s revolutionary DownScan Imaging™ technology with brilliant color displays, smart automatic fishfinder modes and simple, intuitive operation into a surprisingly cost-effective solution with today’s most innovative sonar technology for anglers and boaters.

DSI-equipped anglers experience a new standard in fishfinding with remarkable below-the-boat, picture-like views of bottom structure such as brush, rocks, vegetation, drop offs—as well as thermoclines, predator fish and baitfish. The Elite DSI series provides crystal-clear underwater definition in shallow and deep, freshwater or saltwater—including impressive bottom readings at higher boat speeds. Capable of displaying isolated targets and hard-to-find secondary structure, DSI sonar not only allows users to see vegetation and bottom structure more clearly, but also helps anglers recognize variations in weed growth and bottom hardness.

The Elite-5x DSI and Elite-5 DSI feature a new rugged, low-profile, dual-frequency Skimmer® transom-mount transducer with built-in temperature sensor that operates at 455 kHz for wider and deeper coverage, or at 800 kHz for more concentrated scans in shallower conditions with greater target separation. For easy-to-use, touch-of-a-button execution, Elite DSI models have automatic fine-tuned fishfinding modes for simplified, instant operation and optimal performance, while allowing access to manual options for advanced control. For greater precision with bait or lure presentations, anglers can position the cursor anywhere on the sonar display to determine the depth of a marked object—such as suspended baitfish, a thermocline, or predator fish identified among suspended tree branches. In addition, DSI models feature Lowrance TrackBack™ that allows anglers to scroll backward into sonar history and pinpoint possible fishing hotspots. With the Elite-5 DSI fishfinder/chartplotter, users can also set waypoints, for easier navigation back to a desired location.

Elite-5 DSI fishfinder/chartplotter models feature a built-in high-sensitivity 16-channel GPS+WAAS precision antenna for out-of-the-box, plug-and-play navigation, along with an external antenna option. The built-in U.S. basemap provides enhanced details for more than 3,000 enhanced lake maps and detailed shorelines, creeks, estuaries and channels, as well as coastal/offshore maps with depth contours details as great as 1,000 feet. Ensuring boaters have the maximum flexibility to use their choice of charts, Elite-5 DSI units also feature a waterproof micro SD memory card slot supporting multiple mapcard options, including LakeMaster®, Fishing Hot Spots® Pro USA, and Navionics® Gold and HotMaps Premium charts. In addition, anglers can store up to 3,000 waypoints, 100 routes with 100 waypoints per route and 100 retraceable plot trails with up to 10,000 points per trail.

”The Elite DSI series provides innovative underwater detail for the cost-conscious fisherman,” said Louis Chemi, chief operating officer for Navico Americas. "Never before have anglers been able to see so much, for so little!”

Designed with a true 5-inch, 480x480-pixel SolarMAX™ 256-color TFT display with best-in-class brightness for superior viewing in all conditions and from wide angles, all Elite DSI series models have 2,400 Watts of peak-to-peak DownScan Imaging power for unfiltered target separation at depths down to 200 feet. Compact and attractively priced, the units also feature an innovative mounting design with an easy-to-install, quick-release, tilt-and-swivel bracket that allows for convenient removal and remounting. The enhanced keypad is backlit and designed for simplified one-handed control of the systems’ easy-to-use menus. To adapt to ambient water and light conditions, fishfinder options include an expansive palette of display-color choices and selectable 455 kHz or 800 kHz sounding. All Elite DSI models feature a quarter-turn uniplug cable system with watertight seals for longer, trouble-free connections in all marine environments. Lowrance Elite-5 DSI Wins ICAST 2010 New Products Showcase Award

For the fourth year running, Lowrance has won the top marine-electronics innovation honors at the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST). Introduced at this year’s event, the Lowrance Elite-5 DSI affordable fishfinder/chartplotter -- featuring exclusive DownScan Imaging™ (DSI) sonar technology -- received the Best Electronics award in the ICAST New Products Showcase.

At the 53rd annual sportfishing exhibition, New Product Showcase entries are judged by industry buyers and media representatives based on innovation, execution, workmanship and practicality. The winning Lowrance Elite-5 DSI combines revolutionary and exclusive Lowrance DownScan Imaging™ sonar technology with a brilliant color display, smart automatic fishfinder modes and simple, intuitive operation – all at a surprisingly affordable price.

“We designed the Elite DSI series to provide detailed, easy-to-understand viewing of underwater detail for the cost-conscious fisherman,” said Louis Chemi, chief operating officer, Navico Americas. “To have the industry’s leading editors and buyers recognize the system with a New Product Showcase award is truly an honor as well as testament to our continued commitment of providing boaters with exceptional electronics innovation.”

The Lowrance Elite-5 DSI features a new rugged, low-profile, dual-frequency Skimmer® DSI transom-mount imaging transducer with built-in temperature sensor, that operates at 455 kHz for wider and deeper coverage, and at 800 kHz for more concentrated scans in shallower conditions with greater target separation. The built-in, high-sensitivity 16-channel GPS+WAAS antenna ensures out-of-the-box, plug-and-play navigation, plus internal memory for up to 3,000 waypoints, 100 routes with 100 waypoints per route and 100 retraceable plot trails with up to 10,000 points per trail. A waterproof microSD memory card slot supports multiple mapcard options, including LakeMaster®, Fishing Hot Spots® Pro USA, Navionics® Gold and HotMaps Premium charts.

The new Lowrance Elite DSI series also includes a fishfinder–only model (Elite-5x DSI), in addition to a fishfinder/chartplotter bundled with a Lowrance-exclusive special-issue Navionics® Gold microSD chartcard (Lowrance Elite-5 DSI Gold).

Lowrance is a world-leading brand in marine electronics since 1957 and GPS navigational systems since 1992. 1/27/2010                                                                        Lowrance affirms continued commitment for distribution and support of Structurescan™ sonar imaging technology

Tulsa, Okla. – Lowrance, a world-leading brand in marine electronics since 1957 and GPS navigational systems since 1992, re-affirmed today that the LSS-1 StructureScan™ sonar imaging module option – compatible with HDS fishfinder/chartplotter multifunction displays – will continue to be sold, distributed and fully supported worldwide.

The announcement is a direct response to today’s patent infringement lawsuit filed against Navico, Inc., by Johnson Outdoors.

Lowrance publicly announced the 2009 availability of LSS-1 StructureScan™ sonar imaging on February 20, 2009, at the Bassmaster® Classic Expo, held in Shreveport, La. Additional details – including the DownScan Imaging™ feature of StructureScan™ sonar imaging for Lowrance HDS displays – were revealed publicly on July 15, 2009, at the International Convention of Sportfishing Trades (ICAST), held in Orlando, Fla.

Following the on-time shipment of LSS-1 StructureScan™ sonar imaging in November 2009, excitement of LSS-1 StructureScan™ sonar imaging continues to grow as media and dealer demonstrations at marine-industry events have revealed the unique “full picture” view and other unique features that this add-on module provides for owners of Lowrance HDS multifunction displays. The LSS-1 StructureScan™ sonar imaging is based on Navico’s known and reliable sonar technology, yet it also features additional new technology not available from others, in a unique add-on module configuration.

“We are confident,” said Louis Chemi, COO for Navico Americas, “in the uniqueness and value of Lowrance LSS-1
StructureScan™ sonar imaging. We also wish to assure our customers that the worldwide sale and distribution of StructureScan™ sonar imaging will absolutely continue as planned with full Lowrance support for years to come. Navico will vigorously defend the recent legal proceedings initiated by Johnson Outdoors.”

Getting Started

The Quick Start Guide now comes in handy in getting to know the keys and the general layout of the your new High-Definition System. The Quick Start Guide is laid out in the general order of how a user might navigate through various parts of the High-Definition System. The guide hits the high points in general terms in order to give the user enough information to use the High-Definition System without spending a lot of time with the Operations Guide. While the Quick Start Guide is printed on heavy paper stock with gloss, it may not survive long term exposure to the elements. The user may wish to laminate the guide to preserve it for the long term.

Visibility

The 16-bit color Super VGA SolarMAX™ PLUS TFT display is a work of art. The display is precise and easy to read in all lighting conditions. I did not have any issues when using polarized sunglasses reading information on the display. When viewing from angles, the display still performed very well. There was some reduction in the quality of the display but not enough to cause an alarm.

Lowrance allows you to edit the size of your fonts for the menus. You may choose either Small or Normal. I prefer the small size for it reduces the amount of clutter on my display. The Text Size is located in the sub-menu (System Menu) of the Settings Menu.

To adjust the Brightness or utilize the Night Mode, press the LIGHT/POWER button. You will have the choice of 10 different levels of brightness. You will also see the Night Mode. When you turn it on, the screen is much easier to use at night. It reduces the eye fatigue and helps in improving your night vision.

Log Sonar (Recording)

This is much more than just a cool function. Log Sonar is a very helpful tool which you can use at a later time. Let's look at recording or as Lowrance calls it Log Sonar Data then followed by Screen Capture.

The Log Sonar Data is by far the most useful tool you will use after the fact. The Sonar recording data contains Sonar and GPS data. This will allow you to review the recordings in your favorite chair at home and mark structure.  Let's head over to the Log Sonar Data menu. The Log Sonar Data menu is a sub-menu of the Sonar Menu. If you’re in a hurry, the unit will auto fill your Filename. If you have time, you edit the filename now or wait until a later time. The unit will default to internal storage as well. If you are using a SD card, you have the option here to save it to it.

To view the Sonar data that you just recorded, head to the PAGES. Scroll over to the Utilities list and select FILES. Scroll to the Memory card which contains the recording and press enter. You will notice the display on the recording will be different from your real time settings. Press Play and watch. Along the way you can Pause , Fast Forward and Rewind. Use the cursor to mark structure or other points of interest. You will notice the cursor will show the depth.

Screen Capture

To turn on the Screen Capture mode, from the Setting Menu, select the System Menu. Scroll down to the Screen Capture and press enter to turn it on. Exit back out. Now when you are on the water, all you need to do is press the LIGHT/POWER button. It's that easy! Be advised that it will take a few moments for the processor to write the data. This will stop the screen from scrolling during the process. The screen shot will be sent to internal storage by default.

Lowrance Dominates Top Finishes at Bassmaster Elite Series

LOWRANCE LEADS THE WAY AT THE 2010 BASSMASTER ELITE SERIES TOURNAMENTS

Skeet Reese Wins Southern Challenge Using HDSÒ and StructureScanÔ Imaging

Tulsa, Okla. – Lowrance pro angler Skeet Reese has won the Southern Challenge at the Lake Guntersville, Guntersville, Alabama Bassmaster Elite tournament this past weekend, May 6-9, 2010. Equipped exclusively with Lowrance HDSÒ multi-function displays and the Lowrance StructureScan™ sonar imaging system, Reese overcame a 5-pound deficit at the end of Day 3 and boated a Day 4 tournament-winning total of 100-pounds,13-ounces. This is Reese’s second Elite victory and fifth consecutive top 5 finish—an unprecedented achievement in the history of the series.

Four out of the five 2010 Bassmaster Elite Series tournaments have been won by competitors with boats exclusively rigged with Lowrance HDS systems and the groundbreaking StructureScan featuring SideScan and DownScan Imaging™. Last month Reese also won the Blue Ridge Brawl at Smith Mountain Lake in Huddleston, Virginia, by more than 14 pounds. John Crews won the first event, Duel in the Delta in Stockton, California, followed by Byron Velvick winning the Golden State Shootout on Clear Lake in Lakeport, California.

In addition to an impressive record of 2010 Elite Series tournament wins, Lowrance has dominated the top finishes. In the most recent Series events, Southern Challenge and the Alabama Charge, six of the top 12 finishers used Lowrance exclusively. At the Golden State Shootout and the Duel in the Delta events, nine of the top 12 pros competed using only Lowrance electronics. The top seven contenders at the Delta and top five at the Shootout had boats rigged with HDS with StructureScan sonar imaging systems. At Smith Mountain Lake’s Blue Ridge Brawl, seven of the top 12 finishers were equipped with Lowrance HDS, and six of those also used StructureScan.

Considered one of the most prestigious bass fishing tournaments in the world, the Bassmaster Elite Series consists of 10 events from March through July. In addition to championships awarded for each event, the anglers accumulate points toward qualifying for the 2011 Bassmaster Classic, as well as the Bassmaster Angler of The Year points race. After the first five Elite events, Reese continues to lead in Angler of the Year standings and has further pulled away from his competitors with his Southern Challenge victory.
